Vitor Carmona obtained his high school degree in 2007, in the area of Science and Technology. Later on he earned his Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra, during which he was also the recipient of a Research Initiation Grant from the Foundation of Science and Technology, working in the field of molecular microbiology at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology. After obtaining his master’s degree he was the recipient of a PhD grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology and he is now pursuing his PhD degree in the Vectors and Gene Therapy Group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC). His work focuses on Machado-Joseph disease, particularly in the identification of important pathogenic pathways and in the development of gene therapy applications for the treatment of this disease.
