Education: 

Rita Perfeito got a degree in Biology in 2005, from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. In 2006, Rita received a fellowship from FCT to develop her PhD thesis entitled Interplay between alpha-synuclein and oxidative stress in Parkinson’s disease cell models, under the supervision of Professor Ana Cristina Rego from the Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Signalling in Neurodegeneration group, at CNC. Between 2010 and 2012, Rita worked as a Research Technician in the group of Prof. Ana Cristina Rego and in the meanwhile, got her PhD in Cell Biology, from the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal. During this time, Rita has presented her work in several national and international meetings in the scientific area (oral and poster communications) and was selected to receive a travel grant to participate at the FENS Forum 2008.
Rita Perfeito has been working as a post-doctoral researcher in the Vectors and Gene Therapy group, Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, Coimbra, Portugal, since March 2014, under the supervision of Professor Luís Pereira de Almeida. She was recently awarded a post-doctoral grant by FCT (SFRH/BPD/100130/2014), with the project Role and mechanisms of alpha-synuclein spreading in Parkinson’s disease, which aims to identify the mechanisms of alpha-synuclein dissemination/migration in Parkinson’s disease using in vitro and in vivo models of this disorder.
