 made a BSc in Biology in the University of Madeira (Portugal) and completed a PhD in Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics in 2007. The PhD work was carried out in the University of Barcelona, focusing in molecular evolution mechanisms using Drosophila as a model organism. Since I obtained my PhD degree, I published 18 papers in international peer review journals, 14 of them in Q1 ranked journals. I’m also the co-editor of two scientific books, being also the author of 4 chapters in books. I made an extensive post-doc training at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (Portugal), where after I was appointed to a fixed-term Invited Scientist position to start an independent research line. Importantly, I’m the Principal Researcher in two recently funded projects from National Ataxia Foundation (USA), and The French Muscular Dystrophy Association (France) of more than 100.000 euros, and participated as team member in the management and development of 7 other research projects.
