The Microscopy Imaging Center of Coimbra, at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (MICC-CNC), is a centralized facility where users receive the support required to carry out conventional and advanced imaging techniques, based on Light Microscopy. The unit has combined resources to provide state-of-the-art equipment that is open to all researchers. We offer the same services to academic investigators or companies. The primary goal of the MICC-CNC is to improve the research and teaching environment for the CNC scientific community. To meet these goals, the MICC-CNC: |
 |
 |
provides technical training to local users and visiting researchers; |
 |
offers consultation on experimental design and image analysis; |
 |
implements advances in hardware and software relevant for biomedical sciences; |
 |
provides ongoing education in advanced microscopy approaches by organizing trainings courses and workshops. |
|
 |
MICC-CNC is a node of the PPBI-Portuguese Platform of BioImaging, a infrastructure of National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance. |

MICC-CNC offers a wide range of different instruments for your research, from epifluorescence microscopy, to high-speed confocal microscopy and laser catapulting microdissection. The systems are prepared for advanced applications, including live cell imaging, and single-cell calcium measurement, enabling researchers to image dynamic events and molecular interactions. The P.A.L.M. laser microdissection microscope is a perfect tool for the isolation of the different cell population within a sample, allowing its full characterization. |

How to access our resources
First you should read the microscope usage policy, this contains simple rules that you should follow when using a microscope.
Then use our booking system in order to schedule some time on the system.
|
 |
Microscope Usage Policy
For new users, the first microscope session must be attended by the responsible technician. You should fill in the Ask for training form and send it to micc@cnc.uc.pt.
Before using a microscope users must have a valid reservation in the booking system.
Users must always use their own reserved time and should not use another user account to book time in a microscope. Use without a reservation is prohibited.
Booking changes must be made until 12h before the booking time.
Users should always use the Turn ON and Turn OFF hardware protocols.
The local hard disks are not for data storage. You need to remove your data. The disk might be wiped out without prior warning.
It is forbidden to use USB Flash drive, instead CD/DVD burning must be used.
Do not try to modify or install software on the microscope computers.
Only lab coats are allowed and gloves are not permitted to use on the microscopes. The microscopes are considered 'clean'.
If you find a problem with a microscope or evidence of incorrect usage, immediately contact the responsible technician.

How to Book?
For new users, the first microscope session must be attended by the responsible technician. You should fill in the Ask for training form and send it to micc@cnc.uc.pt.
Go to the Agendo- Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology web page: https://next.cirklo.org/cnc/ and follow the How to book instructions.
During working hours (8:00 to 20:00) users are allowed to book a maximum of 4 hours per day (12 hours per week) per system. Overnight (20:00 to 8:00) and weekend booking is not restricted.

Publications
The mission of the MICC team is to guide and assist users in acquiring and analyzing images. Thus, it's not required to include any staff member of the imaging center in the author list of the publication. However, when a staff member of the imaging center has significantly contributed to a publication, it is highly recommended to add this person in the list of authors.
Mention of the imaging center in the publication: Users must indicate that they have used the MICC in any publication. For example, in the section Materials and Methods: "image acquisition [and image analysis] was done in the MICC Imaging facility of CNC" or in the acknowledgments section "The authors wish to thank [xxx] from the MICC Imaging facility of CNC”.
Users must submit, as soon as possible, the references of any publications that have used the equipment of the imaging center. These information highlight the use of the equipment of the imaging center, the efficiency of investment and facilitate all requests for funding for the acquisition of new microscopes.
