Microscope overview
Carl Zeiss LSM 510 Meta is a laser scanning inverted confocal microscope equipped with multi-spectral detector, allowing spectral analysis. It has an excellent resolution, high power lasers and extended filter-sets.
The system is based on Axiovert 200M inverted microscope body and has live cell imaging facilities. Applications include, for example, time lapse imaging, photobleaching experiments, colocalization studies, spectral detection and 3D imaging.
LSM 510 Meta has two PMTs (photo multiplier tubes) and an adjustable META detector for collecting fluorescence emission from specimen: PMTs are highly sensitive and emission wavelengths are defined by default emission filters; META detector has multiply detector elements, instead, and can be used for spectral detection and subsequent linear unmixing of overlapping fluorescence stainings, however at a much lower sensitivity than its other two PMT detectors.
Furthermore, a transmission detector (PMT) detects the scanning laser and provides a transmission light image of the sample.
