PDBEB Advanced Course "In Utero Programming of adult metabolism and disease"

The objective of this course is identify internal and external cues that affect intra-uterine life and pre-disposes the offspring for the development of different metabolic diseases, and how they can be transmitted via the germline. For example, evidence is mounting that excess or restricted nutritional supply to the fetus in determined developmental windows can cause perturbations in organogenesis and prime the metabolism of the developing fetus for a mismatch in the extra-uterine life. The Course will review some of these concepts and identify causes and mechanisms of intra-uterine disease programming.
