This event wants to promote the microscopy field of study, and to disseminate the knowledge in the biological sciences and microscopy fields. The MICRODay allows to open doors for schools, which are invited to bring their students to the microscopic units all around the country, among other activities. This event is directed for high school students.
In a society more and more dependent on technology and scientific innovation, the common citizen must become aware of the current research surrounding them. To understand some of the breakthrough in an area in constant evolution, and to comprehend how “what we are able to see today, is much more than we could see 10 years ago… as if our eyes, in just 10 years, had passed through millions of years’ worth of evolution”, are some of the event’s main descriptions.
The MICRODay activities will happen simultaneously all across the country. More than CNC in Coimbra, are also in this initiative the Gulbenkian Science Institute (IGC), Chemical and Biological Technical Institute (ITQB), the Technical Superior Institue (IST), the Science Faculty of Lisbon (FC-UL), CEDOC – Chronic Diseases, Champalimaud Foundation (FC), Molecular Medicine Institute (IMM), Research Center in Biomedicine (CBMR), University of Aveiro (iBiMED), University of the Interior (CICS-UBI) and i3S – Institution in Innovation and Research in Health.
“Uncovering the behind-the-scenes” of psychiatric disorders”, “Explore autism in the lab: using mini-brains”, “The intracellular calcium dynamics in neuronal cells. A window to see epilepsy” and “Cell death: how can we see it on the microscope?” are some of the themes of the MICRODay at CNC.
