Recognizing the importance of Science Communication, CNC have been deeply involved in science communication activities in order to foster dialogue between scientists and different groups of society, to provide public accountability, to spread our findings through media and to create scientific culture. Our outreach efforts have the enthusiastic involvement of the CNC researchers and our partnerships are crucial to strategically target different publics. We believe that our outreach strategy could represent a valuable contribution to the scientific literacy in Portugal to build up a truly scientific citizenship and a more knowledgeable society. |

Although communication is an innate human ability, communicating science requires knowledge not only of science, but of information technologies, journalism, and visual communication, which might pose significant challenges for many. Several science communication workshops have been promoted by CNC in order to provide scientists with the tools to make their work public even more effectively (either to peers, students, the media, the general public, funding agencies and others); to promote the public interest and participation in science; to deliver outreach activities to the community. All workshops had the collaboration of scientists, science communicators and journalists.
We will be announcing here every new workshop. Below you can find our last events: |

ASK Researchers |
The ASK (Always Seeking Knowledge) Researchers video line allows society to submit any type of questions to CNC researchers about a certain theme. Each episode features a different researcher, from a different research line, which answers the submited question, one by one. What says the lab coat of each invited researcher? Every month we will have a different answer. |

Selfie Science |
The Selfie Science video line challenges CNC researchers to explain their research work in common language between 2 and 3 minutes. In each video, our researchers give a brief context of their work using schemes, and explain a crucial laboratory technique for their research. From neuroscience and metabolism, to cell reprogramming and microbiology, all CNC research lines are displayed and featured in here in monthly episodes. |

Stem cells: What are they? Where are they? What can they be used for? |
This was a science dissemination project, supported by COMPETE in 2010, involving researchers and the media. The project focused on one of the major current topics in basic research and biomedicine - stem cells, and we addressed questions that are commonly not fully understood by the public. |

Brain Myths, Facts and Research |
In order to create meeting places between science and society, we developed audio-visual contents about neuroscience research and brain facts. In a partnership with Radio station RUC, we produced radio contents to explain or demystify myths about the brain and communicate scientific messages.
FILES RADIO »
During BAW, RUC produced and transmitted a program about neuroscience with participation of neuroscientists. The podcast of the program is availabre here.
Small videos, that we call “selfie papers”, were developed where the scientist explains in an informal way his/her last published paper.
