Maria Teresa Cruz graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Lisbon (1992), has a master in Drugs Technology (1996) and a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Coimbra (2004). She is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Principal Investigator of the research line “Innate immunity in inflammation-related diseases“ at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) at UC, aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the inflammatory response evoked by innate immune cells. She was co-founder of the spin-off from UC, Toxfinder, whose mission is the development of non-animal toxicity tests to ensure the safety of chemicals before their use, fully aligned with the 3R policy, and thus guaranteeing the protection of human health.  She also participated in the creation of a Pilot Production Unit for Cell Therapy, UpCells, resulting from a partnership between UC and a pharmaceutical industry. She published about 146 papers (mainly Q1 publications) with almost 4800 citations.
