AREA F: CELL AND DEVELOPMENT BIOLOGY
Coordinators – Celeste Lopes & João Ramalho-Santos
Research in this Area is characterized by the complementation of basic cell and molecular biology research with a strong medical component, in projects involving clinicians and human samples. The goals are to develop novel diagnostic tools and therapeutical approaches in several key areas. Projects include the study of interactions between cellular pathogens and host cells; the molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance as they relate to obesity and diabetes; and the cellular and molecular basis of immunological, oncological and reproductive dysfunctions.
